EDWIN
MADE IN JAPAN
Founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 1947, the EDWIN brand is known for its authenticity, innovation and craftsmanship. Founder Tsunemi Yonehachi was among the first merchants to bring vintage American jeans to Japan in the postwar era, sparking a national obsession with denim. In 1961, inspired by growing demand, EDWIN (whose company name comes from a creative rearrangement of the letters found in the word "denim") launched the first jeans made in Japan. In the 1970s, EDWIN established itself as a pioneer in denim manufacturing, experimenting with washing techniques in the EDWIN Wash House that impacted denim washing processes around the world. Innovations included ONE WASH, a pre-wash process to eliminate shrinkage before purchase, and OLD WASH, a precursor to stone washing that reproduces faded colors through careful abrasion techniques for a worn denim look. Today, EDWIN continues to set the benchmark for Japanese denim production, boasting proprietary fabrics, revolutionary production technologies, cutting-edge finishes and advancements in design and fit.
